Kansas has a rich musical heritage which boasts a profound cultural footprint in the state.

Among them? Rock supergroup Kansas is from -- you guessed it -- Kansas, and "Home on the Range" was written in and about Kansas in the 1870s and is now Kansas's official state song. In the early 1900s, Kansas hosted a vibrant jazz scene, rocketing local talents Charlie Parker and Nora Holt to stardom. Rock star Melissa Etheridge, R&B phenom Janelle Monae, and country icon Martina McBride also hail from the Sunflower State.
